Meet the Gale you may not know as New Plaza Cinema screens her curated choice of 2015’s “Suffragette” starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep. Stay for the Q&A as Gale answers all your film questions, followed by a light food and drinks reception where you may mingle with our special host and other attendees.

$20 of every ticket as a direct donation to New Plaza Cinema and will be used to bring community programming to the New Plaza Cinema screening room @Macaulay Honors College.
As host of our second summertime fundraiser, Gale Brewer knows quite a lot about suffragettes and “Suffragette.” She’ll share her fondness for a certain statue in Central Park and doubtless her thoughts about the second woman in history running as a major party nominee for President of the United States.
Gale A. Brewer represents the 6th Council District and chairs the Committee on Oversight and Investigations. She recently passed bills to prevent lithium-ion battery fires, expand the city’s tree canopy, and protect hourly workers. Previously, she was Manhattan Borough President and represented the 6th District from 2002-2013. For many years, she has taught at CUNY and Barnard. She and her husband Cal Snyder live on the Upper West Side.

Our second summer community fundraising event, Friday, August 16th at 6:00 pm. Post film Q&A with representative, Gale Brewer. A light snack and beverage reception will follow the Q&A with a chance to mingle with our special guest and patrons.

Gale Brewer is the curator and special host for our second summertime fundraiser. Gale definitely has a lot to say about the wonderful 2015 film, Suffragette, starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep.
Gale A. Brewer represents the 6th Council District and chairs the Committee on Oversight and Investigations. Under her leadership, the committee held oversight hearings on costs of the migrant crisis, proliferation of unlicensed cannabis shops, operational challenges in family court, and many other topics. Council Member Brewer is a member of the Budget Negotiation Team as well as the Committees on Finance, Higher Education, Immigration, Consumer and Worker Protection, Governmental Operations, and Rules, Privileges, and Elections. She recently passed bills to prevent lithium-ion battery fires, expand the city’s tree canopy, and protect hourly workers.
