\nWe currently screen films on weekends. New Plaza Cinema @Macaulay Honors College is located at 35 West 67th Street, NY, NY 10023. We are located on the UWS on the north side of 67th Street between Columbus Circle and Central Park West.. <\/p>\n

After a 30+ year career in independent film acquisition and distribution, Gary segued into a new role as film curator and general manager of New Plaza Cinema\u2019s various locations on the upper west side, and now its “virtual cinema.” Gary’s keen eye for film curation has been a significant contributor to the success and growth of NPC.<\/p>\n

Long esteemed as \u201can aural and visual poet\u201d, Susanne Rostock\u2019s filmmaking is a stunning 40 years of some of the most compelling documentaries of each decade. Her most recent film as director \/ editor, Sing Your Song, about Harry Belafonte\u2019s life as an artist and activist, was chosen to open the U.S. Documentary Competition section of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, where it was described as a story \u201ctold with a remarkable sense of intimacy, visual style and musical panache\u201d. This film continues to be in world wide theatrical distribution and television broadcast and has aired on HBO. Sing Your Song received top honors in festivals around the world, was shortlisted for an Oscar, and garnered the NAACP Image Award and a Gracie for Outstanding Director.<\/p>\n

Paul Downs practiced international law for more than four decades, most recently as a partner at Hogan Lovells in New York, where he co-founded the Sovereign Investor Practice and initiated its annual Sovereign Investor Conference. Paul is co-author of The Hunt for Unicorns: How Sovereign Funds are Reshaping Investment in the Digital Economy. He has represented sovereign investors transacting in assets globally, has spoken and published on the topic and guest lectured at Columbia and New York University law schools. <\/p>\n

Marie-Monique Steckel is President Emerita of the French Institute Alliance Fran\u00e7aise
Marie-Monique has been president of the French Institute Alliance Fran\u00e7aise (FIAF) for 18 years from 2004 to 2022.
The FIAF in New York is the most important in the world:It promotes the French language with 6000 students a year and a vast array of contemporary cultural programs in New York.
The FIAF has weekly showings of French films and has an annual festival of animation films.
French citizen Marie-Monique has been Director of Communications for the Party of Jacques Chirac campaign in 1978.
She then created and led the first offices of France Telecom in New York from 1979 to 1999. In 1999, Marie-Monique joined Ronald Lauder\u2019s team as advisor to the non profit andcommercial activities in Eastern Europe till 2004.
She is a graduate from Sciences Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris and Yale.
She is now consultant to Charles Cohen for the restoration of the iconic cinema La Pagode in Paris

Jamal Joseph is a writer, director, producer educator and activist. His film and television writer\/director credits include \u201cChapter & Verse\u201d (theatrical and BET) which won the Pan African Film Festival\u2019s Audience Choice Award and was a New York Times Critic\u2019s pick. \u201cDrive by\u201d and \u201cDa Zone\u201d for STARZ in BLACK, \u201cHard Chorus\u201d and \u201cHip Hop in the Promised Land\u201d for Comedy Central,\u201d and \u201cHughes Dream Harlem\u201d for PBS. Additional screenplay credits include \u201cKnights of the South\u201d for A&E and \u201cAli: An American Hero\u201d for FOX. Joseph is an executive producer and is featured in the Emmy-nominated FX docuseries \u201cDear Mama\u201d about the life and legacy of Tupac and Afeni Shakur. Joseph is featured in the PBS documentary \u201cBlack Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution\u201d and the EPIX docuseries \u201cBy Whatever Means Necessary.\u201d He is adapting his critically acclaimed memoir \u201cPanther Baby\u201d into a feature film.
Joseph was a leader of the Harlem Chapter of the Black Panther Party and spent nine years in prison. He began writing and directing plays in prison and founded a groundbreaking multiracial theater ensemble while incarcerated at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. He has since written, directed and produced plays and theatrical events at National Black Theater, New Heritage Theatre, Riverside Theater, St. James Theater, The Apollo, Theater at Madison Square Garden, Miller Theater and Carnegie Hall.
Joseph is the co-founder of the Oscar\u00ae and Grammy\u00ae-nominated Impact Youth Theatre. He is the Executive Artistic Director of New Heritage Theatre, the oldest Black non-profit theater in New York State.
Joseph has been a member of Columbia University’s film faculty for 25 years. He is a full professor of professional practice in film and was the first African American to serve as the head of the screen and television writing program and as Chair of the Graduate Film Division. He is the author of Tupac Legacy, an interactive biography of Tupac Shakur published by Atria Books.
Joseph\u2019s awards include an NAACP leadership award, Black Filmmakers’ Hall of Fame Award, Paul Robeson Award from Actor’s Equity Association, AUDELCO Leadership Award and Sundance Directing Fellowship. He is a three-time winner of the National Black Program Consortium Prized Pieces Award, a Cine Golden Eagle, a Purpose Prize from Encore.org and a 2008 Best Song Oscar nomination.<\/p>\n

After receiving a law degree from Yale, Norma worked in private law firms, in government, and in the corporate sector.
