\"LivingHappy New Year, everyone. You helped us close out New Plaza Cinema’s\u00a0very active 2022 by packing our screening room at Macaulay Honors College, for the first eleven days of what we hope will be a long residence by Bill Nighy in Living<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

I introduced many of those holiday week shows and heard the frequent after-screening applause and “thank yous,” and saw how moved everyone\u00a0was, both by NIghy’s Oscar-contending performance and the stellar filmmaking on display.<\/p>\n

But what amazed us most was the number of new customers who came to the theatre — at least 90% raised their hands at every show I queried. We feel that this bodes very well for audience-building in the new year — a sure sign that Upper West Siders are indeed coming back to the movies.<\/p>\n

We’ll continue with a full schedule\u00a0of Living<\/em><\/strong> screenings this weekend — including two open-captioned presentations (check our showtimes) — and more as this month progresses. On Monday January 16, MLK Day, at 2:30 we’ll be offering a sneak preview of Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb<\/em><\/strong> prior to our upcoming regular engagement. Tickets will go on sale early next week. Please consult our website for more details

And on the weekend of January 21-22 we’ll have two screenings of the new documentary Only in Theatres<\/em><\/strong>, chronicling the legendary Laemmle Theatre chain. Its current CEO Greg Laemmle will be\u00a0in from LA to join us.<\/p>\n
