On this Thanksgiving weekend we’re adding the latest from one of the most gifted American filmmakers of his generation — David Fincher, whose body of work includes\u00a0Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network<\/em>, and my personal favorite, Zodiac.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In\u00a0The Killer<\/em><\/strong>, Michael Fassbender portrays a peerless hired assassin\u00a0who himself becomes the hunted when a “job” goes awry.\u00a0Tilda Swinton and Arliss Howard co-star. I was intrigued by the comments from former, longtime\u00a0Rolling Stone\u00a0<\/em>critic Peter Travers:<\/p>\n

“It’s Fincher’s deliciously depraved conceit that his perfectionist process is not unlike the killer’s. In his hands, and with a mesmerizing title turn from Fassbinder, what could have been a hitman cliche becomes a tangle of loose ends hauntingly left untied.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

My colleague, New Plaza Cinema house manager and Fincher-ologist Andrew Lewis and I will take turns introducing this weekend’s screenings on our compact but well-configured wide screen, the director’s favorite shooting format.<\/p>\n

Also this weekend, reprise shows of the crowd-pleasing\u00a0documentaries\u00a0Joan Baez: I Am a Noise<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill<\/em><\/strong>, the acclaimed Argentinian “intimate epic”\u00a0The Delinquents<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and, as the various critics’ groups commence their year-end voting, our beloved\u00a0Past Lives<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
