Next weekend we may also bring some newly minted nominees to our schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Fred Wiseman&#8217;s epic documentary\u00a0<strong><em>Menus Plaisirs &#8211; Les Troisgros\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>will have its final screening on Saturday. On the weekend of February 2 we&#8217;ll be featuring\u00a0 another mammoth doc, Steve McQueen&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Occupied City<\/em>, which WILL have an intermission.<\/p>\n<p>Also this weekend:\u00a0<strong><em>Freud&#8217;s Last Session<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0nears the end of its month-long run, and our &#8220;filmmakers-in-residence,&#8221; director Brian Vincent and producer Heather Spore will be back with their\u00a0ever-popular\u00a0<strong><em>Make Me Famous<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; its twenty-first NPC screening since we &#8220;tested&#8221; it last June!<\/p>\n<p>Two new French comedies join our program this weekend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>The Crime Is Mine<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0from director Francois Ozon, whose multi-layered\u00a0<em>Everything Went Fine<\/em>\u00a0graced our schedule last spring.\u00a0In her Critic&#8217;s Pick review the\u00a0<em>NY Times&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>Beatrice Loayza wrote,\u00a0<em>&#8220;&#8230;this snappy showbiz screwball takes a feminist conceit and stardust and firecrackers to the mix.\u00a0Ozon &#8211; known for his winking subversions of genre &#8211; puts a twist on the trope of the spotlight-seeking murderess:\u00a0the women in the film WANT us to know they did it.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0Check out the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newplazacinema.us18.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=4a0f9c3fe80ef70db6bfb6c6a&amp;id=0d119b969a&amp;e=8477a9c359\">trailer<\/a>\u00a0to see an A-list cast &#8212; Fabrice Luchini, Isabelle Huppert, Rebecca Marder, Andre Dussolier &#8212; having a satiric blast.<\/li>\n<li>In<strong><em>\u00a0Driving Madeleine<\/em><\/strong>, from helmer Christian Carion (Oscar-nominated\u00a0<em>Joyeux Noel<\/em>\u00a0and the recent\u00a0<em>Come What May<\/em>), the beloved French chanteuse Line Renaud plays a woman who forms an unlikely bond with a cranky Parisian cabbie (Dany Boon), in what RogerEbert.com critic (and occasional New Plaza Cinema guest) Glenn Kenny calls\u00a0<em>&#8220;a lot more than a sentimental journey.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0After strong box office in its downtown premiere,\u00a0distributor Cohen Media is expanding the run to the upper west side.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And, coming to our screen on the weekend of January 26-28:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ingmar Bergman&#8217;s\u00a0<em>The Seventh Seal<\/em>\u00a0&#8212; after last Sunday&#8217;s near-full house for\u00a0<em>Smiles of a Summer Night<\/em>, tickets are already selling fast for this stone Bergman classic&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><em>The Peasants<\/em>\u00a0&#8212; Poland&#8217;s 2023 Oscar submission, a turbulent 19th century\u00a0drama from the animators of the acclaimed\u00a0<em>Loving Vincent<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><em>Pasang: In the Shadow of Everest<\/em>\u00a0&#8212; Producer \/ director Lisa Hurwitz (<em>The Automat<\/em>) will host this documentary portrait of Pasang Lharmu Sherpa, the first Nepali woman to summit Mount Everest.\u00a0Q&amp;As after each show!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gary Palmucci.
