We&#8217;re continuing\u00a0for a second week with the new film version of <a href=\"https:\/\/kinomarquee.com\/film\/berlin-alexanderplatz\/5fff5be8fee6040001430d14\/new-plaza-cinema\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/kinomarquee.com\/film\/berlin-alexanderplatz\/5fff5be8fee6040001430d14\/new-plaza-cinema\"><em><strong>Berlin Alexanderplatz<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, acclaimed at last year&#8217;s Berlin Film Festival. To clarify what last Friday may have seemed a bit unclear to some of our readers, this is the third adaptation of Alfred Doblin&#8217;s classic Weimar Germany-era novel, following\u00a0a 1931 feature film and the epic 1980 R.W. Fassbinder TV mini-series which\u00a0I also recommended last week. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Astute critic and film festival programmer Alissa Simon has written:\u00a0<strong><em>&#8220;In this audacious, neon-lit reinterpretation of Alfred D\u00f6blin\u2019s 1929 novel, after surviving his perilous journey African immigrant Francis vows to be a good man, but he soon realizes how difficult it is to be righteous while undocumented in Germany \u2014\u00a0without papers, without a nationality, and without a work permit.&#8221; <\/em><\/strong>Timely circumstances for all too many corners of our uncertain planet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re also continuing with two of last month&#8217;s Oscar winners:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/watch.eventive.org\/thefather\/play\/6075b3f6be6eb90030861b47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/watch.eventive.org\/thefather\/play\/6075b3f6be6eb90030861b47\"><em><strong>The Father<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (Best Actor, Anthony Hopkins and Best Adapted Screenplay) which will be available here through May 16 and <a href=\"https:\/\/samuelgoldwynfilms.vhx.tv\/products\/another-round-new-plaza-cinema\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/samuelgoldwynfilms.vhx.tv\/products\/another-round-new-plaza-cinema\"><em><strong>Another Round<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (Best International Film, Denmark).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This movie has been a long-running crowd pleaser\u00a0with Virtual Cinema audiences around the country. Readers may recall my misadventure with director Thomas Vinterberg&#8217;s earlier (and also prize-winning) film,\u00a0<em>The Celebration,\u00a0<\/em>two-plus decades ago in Cannes.
