The double-Oscar-nominated <em>Collective<\/em> was withdrawn this\u00a0week from virtual\u00a0cinema release but another Romanian film, the dark comedy <a href=\"https:\/\/watch.eventive.org\/twolotterytickets\/play\/60ad3a5f921d0d00c19cad12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/watch.eventive.org\/twolotterytickets\/play\/60ad3a5f921d0d00c19cad12\"><em><strong>Two Lottery Tickets<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, passed across our radar via a smart, scrappy new distributor, Dekanalog, so we&#8217;re giving it a shot.<\/p>\n<p>In a &#8220;Critic&#8217;s Pick&#8221; last weekend, the <em>NY Times<\/em> reviewer wrote that this twisted tale of a down-on-his-luck mechanic whose jackpot lottery ticket is apparently stolen\u00a0&#8220;comes to life when (he and his) friends start interrogating the colorful characters at an apartment complex, including fortune tellers, sex workers and a group of stoners \u2014 all ripe for hilarious vignettes driven by misunderstanding. Director Paul Negoescu&#8230; gives the film fresh zest with droll observations and pitifully endearing characters \u2014 all while poking meta fun at the austere Romanian New Wave film movement (<em>Four Weeks, Three Months, Two Days<\/em>) he works within, and works to dismantle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Next week <strong>New Plaza<\/strong> will be adding a recent German family drama, <em>When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit <\/em>from Caroline Link, director of the Oscar-winning <em>Nowhere in Africa<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Limited-capacity art house screenings of both new and repertory films continue to draw &#8220;full-houses&#8221; in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
