Hello everyone. This week New Plaza is adding a recent German drama, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit<\/strong><\/em><\/a> from Caroline Link, director of the enduring 2003 Oscar-winning Nowhere in Africa<\/em>. The film is based on the first of a trilogy of best-selling children’s books\u00a0\u2014 and life experiences \u2014 of author\/illustrator Judith Kerr, whose family in the early 1930s fled the Nazis first to Switzerland, then Paris, eventually returning to a battered Berlin after the war.<\/p>\n

Washington Post<\/em> critic Ann Hornaday wrote last month: “In tone and approach, ‘When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit’ recalls “To Kill a Mockingbird.” This is a very grown-up story couched in a coming-of-age tale of discovery and perseverance, the kind of child-centric narrative that provides an engaging and empathic gateway for young people to learn about history, while never obscuring its deeper meanings for the adults in the room.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

And the photo here taken last weekend at downtown Manhattan’s\u00a0venerable Film Forum, captures the upbeat trend we’re continuing to experience of audiences enthusiastically returning to the movies. At\u00a0New Plaza<\/strong> this summer we will carry on offering the best in international virtual cinema, including in the coming weeks Fellini’s\u00a08 1\/2<\/em>,\u00a0 the new Israeli drama Asia,\u00a0<\/em>and acclaimed Finnish artist biopic Tove<\/em>.<\/p>\n
