No new additions this week to our film lineup of virtual cinema titles. However, I have included below links to three trenchant pieces of journalism about the current raging debate on our state of movie watching as theatres and film festivals finally, fitfully start to rev their engines. Depending on your internet-carrier situation, one or two of these may require subscriptions to the linked publications.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5919 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/newplazacinema.org\/test_area\/staff_materials\/tickets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Cannes-Todd-McCarthy-Pete-Hammond-On-Hits-Misses-And-Joys-Of-2021-Edition-\u2013-Deadline-300x271-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"271\" \/>My friend and veteran\u00a0film critic and journalist <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/07\/todd-mccarthy-and-pete-hammond-on-the-hits-misses-and-joys-of-the-74th-cannes-film-festival-1234795327\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Todd McCarthy<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 joined by a colleague \u2014 reviews both the &#8220;vibe&#8221; and many provocative films unveiled in this year&#8217;s Cannes Film Festival and despite\u00a0some initial\u00a0misgivings, finds the event to have been a surprising triumph.
