Lisa will join us on Saturday night for a Q &amp; A. G et your tickets ASAP!<\/p>\n<p>After numerous requests we\u2019ll be reprising the compelling Belgian drama\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newplazacinema.org\/test_area\/staff_materials\/tickets\/showtimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Playground<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0this weekend, and also introducing three other newly released international films:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/newplazacinema.org\/test_area\/staff_materials\/tickets\/showtimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Donbass<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0\u2014 Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitza has fearlessly built a body of work around the past two decades of bloody turmoil in his homeland.\u00a0His 2018 feature\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newplazacinema.org\/test_area\/staff_materials\/tickets\/showtimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Donbass\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/a>is a pitch black comedy-drama set in that contested region of southeastern Ukraine. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=udvEwh54BbM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trailer<\/a>\u00a0unfolds much like a replay of the tragedies we\u2019re now witnessing daily. A portion of our ticket sales will be donated to the International Red Cross. In his Critic\u2019s Pick\u00a0in today\u2019s\u00a0<em>NY Times<\/em>, A.O. Scott writes,\u00a0<em>\u201cArt isn\u2019t a lever that moves history, but a lens that shapes perceptions of it. Certain narrative works, novels as well as films, provide illumination different from what might be found in journalism or history\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/newplazacinema.org\/test_area\/staff_materials\/tickets\/showtimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Ahed\u2019s Knee<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0\u2014 Israeli director Nadav Lapid is\u00a0on the cutting edge of that nation\u2019s young filmmakers, constantly asking the question of what it means to be an Israeli, especially to those citizens for whom some of its policies provoke turbulent emotions. In this drama, a filmmaker screening his work in a remote corner of the country is confronted with both political and personal crises.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/newplazacinema.org\/test_area\/staff_materials\/tickets\/showtimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Gagarine<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u2014 Two young French filmmakers dramatize the 2019 demolition of a housing project in Paris\u2019 eastern suburbs (once a venerable bastion of France\u2019s Communist Party) and its aftermath for a group of its young, immigrant residents.\u00a0Per the\u00a0<em>NY Times\u2019<\/em>\u00a0reviewer, \u201cthis real life moment is re-envisioned with a heavy dose of magical realism, foregrounding the dreams of a new generation that build upon the subject\u2019s utopian roots.\u201d Fanny Liatard and Jeremy Trouilh\u2019s debut feature was selected for Cannes 2020 \u2014 the Festival that never was \u2014 but it\u2019s now here for us to experience.
